Insider Insights: How Onshape was Built to Work with Research

Ilya Baran, Onshape

Onshape is not just a unique product development system, but also a unique organization. Learn why Onshape should be the platform for your next CAD research project.

Panel Discussion: Understanding Collaborative Design with Onshape Analytics

Alison Olechowski, University of Toronto | Stanko Škec, University of Zagreb | Ian Gardiner, Avidbots

Onshape’s cloud-native architecture stores each edit made to a document as a flexible change in the database, allowing users to analyze the different types of actions done by different members of the team and how their actions change over time. Come hear from researchers who are using these data to gain new insights into how collaborative design really happens and a commercial customer using Onshape to accelerate their product development process.

Keynote: Next-Generation Design Systems

Adriana Schulz, University of Washington

Next-generation design systems should help experts efficiently create high-performing designs, and let users with scant expertise design one-off models that meet their individual needs. In this talk, we will discuss methods that combine numerical optimization, programming languages, and machine learning, to create more intelligent tools that will simplify design and broaden its appeal.

Industry Insights: How Premier Custom Built is Customizing Onshape

Chad Stoltzfus, Premier Custom Built

Premier Custom Built, an industry leader in custom cabinetry, is streamlining their design and manufacturing workflows using Onshape. To fit the needs of their highly customized process, they have created a library of over 100 custom features using FeatureScript to automate the design and developed a REST API integration for exporting manufacturing information in a familiar format. This talk will focus on how a software engineer is leveraging Onshape’s single source of truth and customizability to add value at various stages of Premier Custom Built’s product development process.

Student Poster Competition

Thank you to all students who submitted their research projects to the poster competition. The poster session will take place from 11:40am-12:40pm ET, during which time each of the presenters will be in a Zoom breakout room sharing the screens while attendees will be free to move between breakout rooms. At the end of the poster session, a Zoom poll will be used to determine the winner of "Best Overall" poster project, who will receive a Creality Ender 3 V2. Winners will be announced at the end of the Research Symposium along with 2 runners up for "Best Research Project" and "Best Poster Design", who will each receive Creality Ender 3 V1's.
