2017 has been an amazing year for Onshape – and if you look at the chart below, you can see exactly how amazing!
Onshape’s automatic updates every three weeks translated to 17 releases and nearly 400 new improvements this year. (If you click here to enlarge the chart, you can review them in more detail.) Keeping up with everything can be tough, but allow me to point out some of the most exciting highlights. Here are some of my personal favorite Onshape enhancements of 2017:
MANAGED IN-CONTEXT DESIGN
In January, we launched Managed In-Context Design tools that allow you to design in the context of the assembly. Like anything in Onshape, our approach is unique and more robust than old-generation CAD systems.
SIMULTANEOUS SHEET METAL
About three weeks after launching Managed In-Context Design, we launched Simultaneous Sheet Metal. Onshape’s modern approach to sheet metal allows you to simultaneously view your sheet metal part in three ways: Folded, Flat, and Table views.
COMPLEX CURVE AND SURFACE CREATION TOOLS
Throughout 2017, curve and surface creation tools were a big focus. Curves like Projected Curve, Composite Curve, 3D Fit Spline, and Bridging Curve were all added earlier this year. Also added were commands like Fill, and many improvements to Loft. All these improvements add up to a robust set of tools for advanced modeling.
CUSTOM PROPERTIES
In March, we added the ability for companies to create custom properties. The ability to create properties that match your company’s standards is important for any engineering team, and we’ve done it in a way that is easier to deploy and maintain.
CUSTOM MATERIALS
Just a few weeks ago, we added the ability to create your own custom material library. This was one of our most highly-requested features, and we’re thrilled to hear from many Onshape Professional customers about how happy they are with this new capability.
FOLDERS
In October, we added the ability to manage Documents with Folders. This was especially important for teams as it made sharing a large number of Documents easy.
These are just six of the hundreds of improvements added to Onshape this year. If you would like to take a closer look at all of our improvements, check out our changelog. If you are interested in an even deeper dive, register for our webinar tomorrow!
