What do Tom Hanks, Elon Musk, and Pharrell Williams have in common?

They're all supporters of XPRIZE.

XPRIZE competitions are known for challenging teams to solve some of the world's most pressing problems, with the belief that breakthroughs can be achieved by leveraging the power of both collaboration and competition.

We are joining the mission by supporting teams in the design phase of the competition by offering Onshape Professional licenses to every team.

XPRIZE teams will use Onshape’s cloud-native product design platform (which includes CAD & built-in PDM) to accelerate innovation and collaboration between their engineers around the globe and iterate on their ideas rapidly.

XPRIZE is a nonprofit organization that designs global competitions to accelerate technological advancements in various fields. Each challenge typically lasts several years and has an associated multimillion-dollar prize fund.

In these competitions, teams from all over the world are challenged to invent breakthrough solutions in a variety of domains, including biodiversity and conservation, climate and energy, deep tech and quantum, food and water waste, and more.

Since its inception in 1994, the XPRIZE Foundation has launched 25 prizes, with over $269 million in cumulative prize funds, and over 1 million supporters worldwide.

Taking on the Wildfire Crisis

The organization has recently launched its next competition, XPRIZE Wildfire. This next challenge is a four-year global competition that will award $11 million in prizes to competing teams.

The main focus of this competition is to develop technologies that rapidly detect and suppress dangerous wildfires, and teams will have the option to compete in two tracks:

  1. The Space-Based Wildfire Detection and Intelligence track focuses on technology that will rapidly and accurately detect all fires across a vast and remote area and transmit data to ground stations, which is the greatest barrier to how we currently fight fires.

  1. The Autonomous Wildfire Response track centers on innovations that will manage and fight a destructive, high-risk fire by rapidly and autonomously detecting and suppressing it with dramatically greater speed, accuracy, and precision than current solutions.

Registration is now open for teams to compete and transform the field of wildfire management.

Supporting the Design Process

To support teams in their design phase of the competition, we are thrilled to provide Onshape Professional licenses to qualified XPRIZE teams to use for the competition.

XPRIZE competitions are designed to inspire and motivate teams to push the boundaries of innovation. The winners are often teams that iterate on their designs quickly and efficiently.

With a cloud-native product development platform, teams can make changes to their designs on the go, without the need for expensive and time-consuming physical prototyping. This can save teams significant amounts of time and money, and allow them to explore more design options before settling on a final solution.

XPRIZE competitions are open to everyone, not just established companies or research institutions, which allows for a diverse range of perspectives. This open format also encourages the participation of entrepreneurs and startups, innovators, and other individuals from around the world who might not otherwise have access to resources or funding.

With Onshape, multiple engineers can collaborate on their designs in real-time, no matter where they are located. XPRIZE teams who have members spread across the globe can work on the same design simultaneously, avoiding the need for time-consuming file transfers and version control issues.

Onshape was founded to empower innovators to design products that positively impact society and the planet, so we are eager to collaborate with XPRIZE teams and empower engineers to build products that will benefit our future.

With our platform as their design tool, engineering teams will be able to design solutions that push the boundaries of innovation and solve some of the world's most pressing problems.

Once you qualify as an XPRIZE team, ask XPRIZE to set up your Onshape Professional license. However, there are Onshape plans that fit the needs of anyone looking for powerful 3D modeling tools. Whether for fun, business, or school, there’s a plan for you.
