Summary
- Dynamic suppression uses logical expressions to determine whether a Part Studio feature or assembly instance is suppressed or unsuppressed.
- These expressions can be driven automatically by configuration inputs.
When you build configurable assemblies in Onshape, not every instance belongs in every configuration. For instance, a longer flight case needs side handles, but a compact version doesn’t.
Switching these components on and off by hand is time-consuming and error-prone. Dynamic suppression lets Onshape do it for you based on your configuration inputs.
Add Dynamic Suppression to Components
Select the components you want to control, such as the handle assembly and its replicated instances. Then right-click, choose Dynamic suppression, and select Add expression. Enter the condition under which the components stay unsuppressed, for example #L >= 500 mm, where #L is the Length configuration input. Confirm, and the components now follow your rule. In the Instances list, controlled components show an fx icon.
Test the Result
Change the Length input. At 600 mm, the handles appear, and at 450 mm or 350 mm, they are suppressed automatically.
Keep Your Assemblies Lean
Dynamic suppression keeps your assemblies clean and adaptable. Components appear only when they’re needed, and you don’t have to maintain extra configurations for them.
This Tech Tip helped you learn how to automatically suppress and unsuppress components based on configuration values.
